Board and Executive Coaching
Being a senior business leader can be a lonely and difficult role.
Leaders are busy people; completely focused on getting more from less, whilst delivering the best possible service or product to their market.
Because business leaders are busy, they rarely get chance to think about assessing their approaches to leading their organisation and to think about their own development. With these critical time pressures in mind, we have developed an approach to executive leadership coaching that helps business leaders address their personal development needs whilst delivering superb “value for time.”
Our Approach to Leadership Coaching
Tailored - When senior leaders need development, it is likely that they want it to be tailored to their situation, to focus on the current issues as well as their long term development, and to be delivered by credible practical business coaches. They don’t want an academic course filled with 90% information that might be nice to know, but doesn’t focus on their specific circumstance.
Challenging and Real - A particular challenge that faces senior leaders is that colleagues and direct reports are less likely to point out areas for development; and even if they do, there may be no-one internally who is ‘fire-proof’ enough to help with practical ideas to address those needs. Our Coaches help senior leaders see the real issues and whilst being frank they are supportive and ‘in your corner’.
Credible Coaches - All of our executive coaches are experienced at board level; they have a range of coaching qualifications and are able to administer all the major psychometric and 360 tools currently available including, MBTI, Hay EI 360, Benchmarks, TKI, SDI and Skillscope.
A Typical Assignment
Typically an executive coaching assignment would start with some sort of benchmarking, probably using a 360 tool.
From this we would work in partnership with the individual (and sometimes, if appropriate, their manager) to agree on target areas for learning and development. The learning process usually includes one-to-one meetings, telephone coaching and email support.
We use Appreciative Inquiry as an approach to help leaders work out the answers for themselves; but where there is a knowledge, skill or behaviour gap that needs input from our coach we have a range of tools to help bridge the gap.
In partnership with the client, we assess the success of assignment based on the objectives set at the beginning of the process. Because our approach to business coaching is so successful, we usually find that clients will use us for a number of senior executives, and we often work with complete board teams to develop a consistent approach to leadership.
